Plate up so they can show up
The cost of providing school uniforms can be overwhelming for many Canterbury families who are already surviving on very little. They have no spare money for school uniforms, stationery or even school bags—in fact, the reality is many of these parents can’t afford to put food in their child's lunch box, let alone cover basic uniform costs.
The Christchurch City Mission needs $200,000 to put shirts on backs, shoes on feet and books in bags for children whose parents can’t afford uniforms, stationery, and other basics throughout the school year.
Bayleys Canterbury, together with the Christchurch City Mission, wants every child in Canterbury to have all the tools they need for school. It’s as simple as that.
To do this we are bringing together Canterbury’s top Business Leaders to take part in Bayleys Plate up for a Purpose. These Business Leaders will go from the hot seat to the hot plate in a fundraising cooking event. By backing these Business Leaders, we can help them meet their individual crowdfunding targets, giving every child in Canterbury the chance to get the education they need to succeed.
We all benefit when tomorrow’s trailblazers have the tools they need to succeed today.
"The fight against children living without the tools they need to succeed in school was the big winner at our last event. It was successful because the community was right behind backing our business leaders and we thank them for that"
- Pete Whalan, Bayleys Canterbury
The Christchurch City Mission’s Back to School programme gives children of qualifying families the start in life they deserve to succeed in school on the same level as their classmates.
To do this we are bringing together Canterbury’s top Business Leader’s to take part in Bayleys Plate up for a Purpose. These Business Leaders will go from the hot seat to the hot plate in a fundraising cooking event. By backing these business leaders, we can help them meet their individual crowdfunding targets, giving every child in Canterbury the chance to get the education they need to succeed.
First, Bayleys Plate up for a Purpose will take Business Leaders out of their boardrooms and into their community to raise crucial funds for City Mission’s Back to School programme. Our Business Leaders will be using their creativity, connections and competitive spirit to crowdfund.
Next, they’ll join forces with top Canterbury chefs in a memorable evening of fun, food, and fundraising at the Christchurch Town Hall on Saturday 27 February 2021. Our business leaders will put their reputations on the line when they put their entrées on the table.
Dishing out a serving of community kindness and working hard towards their fundraising targets, our Business Leaders need your help. This is crowdfunding and everyone is invited to the table, head to our Givealittle page and together let’s make Canterbury great.
From the hot seat to the hot plate
“We all know starting school is a foundational moment in a child’s development and life. Through our Back to School programme we have the opportunity to help families in real need give their children the best start to the school year. ”
- Matthew Mark, Christchurch City Mission
