Step Up to the Plate
The collaborative crowdfunding campaign is all about creating a sense of community and place. Thank you for supporting our business leaders.
What’s happening?
Helping struggling families meet school costs for uniforms, shoes, and stationery, Bayleys Plate Up for a Purpose has underpinned the Christchurch City Mission’s Back to School Programme for the past two years – this means that every year, Canterbury children are given their best practical start at school, something they wouldn’t otherwise have had.
Since 2019 35 business leaders from Canterbury’s biggest businesses have rolled up their sleeves going from the hot seat to the hot plate, crowdfunding $345,000 for the Christchurch City Mission’s Back to School Programme to help struggling families meet school costs for uniforms, shoes, and stationery, so that every child in Canterbury has the chance to get the education they need.
And we are doing it all over again.

What is crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding is the community rallying together to raise funds by donating money, usually in small amounts, online. The secret sauce of Bayleys Plate Up for a Purpose crowdfunding is our business leaders. Since 2019 over 1538 donations have been processed through our campaign on Givealittle, helping hundreds of families all over Canterbury.
The beauty of supporting Bayleys Plate Up for a Purpose? It provides the tools that children need to go to school with confidence and get the best possible start in life.
Every child in Canterbury should have access to an education and the ability to turn up looking like everyone else, it really is that simple. It is a big goal, but one the Christchurch City Mission is tackling head-on with their Back to School Programme.
Removing barriers to participation in school can have profound positive benefits for our community, especially for our tamariki, our goal is for every child in Canterbury to continue thrive at life.
